Is there general openness towards APIs for single-page applications, so that Smokesignal could run as a backend and support multiple frontends?

Absolutely. I’ve already started going in that direction with exposing XRPC endpoints that can list and search for events.
The long-term goal is that Smoke Signal becomes service infrastructure used by other applications for event features and functionality.
