Preview Site Live

We’re excited to announce that the Smoke Signal Preview site is live! This is a major milestone for Smoke Signal, an event and RSVP management app built on top of ATProtocol.

Originally launched in Summer 2024, Smoke Signal has grown steadily as a way for individuals, communities, and organizations to host public events. A few months ago, I shared that Smoke Signal will be open-sourced, with the release planned for July 14th, 2025 — the one-year anniversary of the site.

This preview is a feature-complete rewrite of the original site running in parallel with the current production site. It gives event creators early access to migrate content and explore the updated features at their own pace.

Lexicon Migration

One of the most important updates is a transition to the Lexicon Community record types for event and RSVP records. The legacy events.smokesignal.calendar.event type has been replaced with community.lexicon.calendar.event and corresponding rsvp types.

While the structure is largely compatible, the NSID change means new records must be created. You’ll still be able to browse and reference older events, but editing and RSVPing are limited to those created in the new format.
